Project Shine 2025: Strengthen.  Unite.  Nurture.

The Heart of Our Communities

Moose Jaw Co-op and SaskWater are thrilled to announce the return of Project Shine — a heartfelt campaign dedicated to strengthening, uniting, and nurturing the communities we call home.

As a company deeply committed to building stronger, more caring communities, Moose Jaw Co-op invites you to join us this May for the third annual Project Shine initiative: a month-long till campaign supporting seniors across Moose Jaw, Avonlea, and Liberty.

Throughout the month of  May, when you shop at the Moose Jaw Co-op Food Store, Gas Bars, Agro Centre, and our Avonlea and Liberty locations, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference simply by making a $2 donation at the till.

This year, Moose Jaw Co-op and SaskWater will each match donations up to $2,500, helping every contribution go even further to support vital seniors' programs and facilities in our communities:

- Moose Jaw locations: Supporting the Moose Jaw & District Seniors Citizens Association.
- Avonlea location:Supporting the Coteau Range Manor.
- Liberty location: Supporting the Long Lake Valley Integrated Health Centre in neighboring Imperial.

Every donation helps light the way for our seniors, providing connection, care, and a safe, welcoming space to gather.

Shining a Light on the Heart of the Centre

In Moose Jaw, donations will support the Timothy Eaton Café — the heart of the Moose Jaw & District Seniors Citizens Association. This café is more than just a kitchen; it’s a gathering place where seniors come together for meals, activities, and friendship.

“We always say the kitchen is the heart of the centre,”shares Candace Thorne, Vice President of the Moose Jaw & District Seniors Association Board of Directors. “And that heart is nurtured by our kitchen manager, who has been with us for eight years and continues to do so much with very little.”

The planned kitchen renovation will completely modernize the space, allowing the Centre to expand café hours, offer weekend services, and better meet the needs of a growing senior community.

The total renovation cost is approximately $44,000, with essential new equipment bringing the full project estimate to just over $100,000. Planned upgrades include:

- Stainless Steel 6 Open Burner Gas Range with 36" Griddle – $19,489.99
- Stainless Steel Countertops – $25,000
- New Flooring & Painting – $13,500
- Metal Shelving for Walk-in Cooler – $1,250
- Fryer – $2,800
- Toaster – $2,500
- Panini Press – $1,900
- Ice Machine – $5,300
- Cooler – $4,800
- Two Under-Counter Freezers – $2,696 each
- Sandwich/Salad Prep Table – $5,560
- Three Stand-Up Freezers –*$8,810 each

The goal for Project Shine 2025 in Moose Jaw is to raise $16,500 — helping purchase the cooler, two under-counter freezers, and three stand-up freezers essential to daily café operations.

“This renovation is key to expanding our services,”said Tanya Legare, Executive Director of the Moose Jaw & District Seniors Association. “With a modern kitchen, we can extend café hours, offer more healthy meals, and continue being a place where seniors feel cared for every single day.”

Supporting Seniors Across Our Communities

In Avonlea, donations will directly support the Coteau Range Manor, a vital care home providing services and support for local seniors.

In Liberty, funds will support the Long Lake Valley Integrated Health Centre in Imperial, ensuring seniors in neighboring rural communities continue to receive critical services and care.

Wherever you donate  at any Moose Jaw Co-op location  your support stays local, helping strengthen the communities we proudly serve.

“Community support plays a vital role in helping us continue our mission,” added Legare. “Every dollar donated builds a stronger, more connected community — one where no one feels left behind.”

Be Part of the Shine!

Thanks to your incredible generosity, last year’s Project Shine campaign raised $14,659.78 to support the Moose Jaw Transition House. This year, with your help, we aim to make an even bigger impact across all of our communities.

“We are proud to once again partner with SaskWater for Project Shine and support our seniors,” said Michaela Turner, Engagement and Public Relations Specialist at Moose Jaw Co-op. “It’s truly inspiring to see how our communities come together to create lasting change for those who need it most.”

Every customer who donates will also be recognized with a special Project Shine Sun proudly displayed in our stores — a bright reminder of the difference we can make when we come together.

Thank you for being part of our Moose Jaw Co-op family and for your continued commitment to building a stronger, more caring community. Together, let's help the heart of our communities shine brighter than ever.
