Membership Help
1. What is a Co-op membership?

Co-op members are owners. By purchasing a share in the business, you are entitled to a share of that profit. Also, Co-op members can participate in the democratic system that guides the co-operative – ensuring the co-op remains locally owned and operated.

2. Do I need to be a member to shop at Co-op?

Customers do not need a membership to shop at Co-op locations.

3. How do I apply for a corporate/business membership?

At this time, a corporate membership can’t be processed through the online application form. Please visit a Co-op location to learn more about this type of membership.

4. Do you require my Social Insurance Number?

Yes, your Social Insurance Number is required under the Income Tax Act for tax reporting purposes. Similar to some financial investments, cashback or equity distributed to Co-op members is considered taxable income. Your local Co-op may issue a T4A form in advance of filing deadlines.

5. Why is date of birth required?

Age is required for two reasons. First, there is a minimum age to be a member stated in the bylaws of each co-operative association. Second, you begin to receive payments from your equity account at an age stated in your local co-op’s bylaws.

6. Why is date of birth required?

The minimum age for membership varies between co-op associations. Because of this, the Online Membership Application uses 18 as a minimum age. If your local co-op allows for memberships at a younger age, please complete an application in person at your nearest Co-op location.

7. What payment methods can be used to purchase a membership?

The Online Membership Application requires a credit card to be processed (Visa, Mastercard or American Express). Customers can also apply for a membership in person where cash will be accepted.

8. When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will be charged as soon as you submit the completed application.

9. Will my credit card be charged every year?

No, Co-op offers lifetime membership benefits. A membership consists of a one-time purchase of a share(s) in your local co-op association.

10. Do you store credit card information?

Co-op does not store your credit card information. Your credit card is only used for the purchase of a one-time Co-op membership.

11. How will I know if payment is successful?

You will receive an email with your Co-op number when your application has been successfully completed and payment has been processed. If there is an error, your credit card will not be charged.

12. When will I know if my Co-op membership is approved

All Co-op memberships must be approved by the local co-op’s Board of Directors. Confirmation of membership varies by co-op association, for example some co-ops will send out a membership card. Contact your local co-op to confirm the approval of your membership.

13. If I'm having technical concerns, who should I contact?

Please contact servicedesk@fcl.crs if you have any technical concerns while going through the online application process.

14. How do I know what my Co-op number will be?

If you have successfully completed the application, you will receive an email from noreply@fcl.crs that contains your Co-op number. If you haven’t received an email, please check your spam folder or contact servicedesk@fcl.crs.

15. Do I need a membership card?

You don’t need to show a membership card or proof of membership when shopping at Co-op. When making your purchase, please provide the cashier with your Co-op number.
